New Role for Giorgio Battistelli
Giorgio Battistelli is the new artistic director of the Verona Arena.
The composer Giorgio Battistelli is the new
Artistic Director of the Verona Arena Foundation. He was nominated by the
Advisory Board upon the proposal of Curator Claudio Orazi.
Battistelli, who
since the early 1980s has authored a dozen operas (the most recent being
“Richard III”, directed by Robert Carsen from the Anversa Opera) was from 1996
to 2002 the artistic director of the Tuscan Orchestra and in 2005-2006 he held
the post of artistic director at the Roman Philharmonic Academy.
From 2004 he
has been the Artistic Director of the Biennial Venice Music and in 2007-2008 he
will be the resident composer of the Düsseldorf Opera. He is a lecturer at the “Jerwood Opera Writing Programme”
opera course in Aldeburgh for composers and librettists.
