Marco Betta - Soundtrack for “The Secret Voyage”
Marco Betta between film and opera.
From the spectacle by Roberto Ando in 1990, which pays homage
to Sicilian popular music, sets the backdrop for Seven Stories to leave the World.
This musical work and film
composed by Marco Betta based on the
work of Roberto Ando, inspires the photographic cycle on sleep by Ferdinando Scianna and a certain
expression of Sicilian soul.
As Roberto Ando explains “the chronicle of sleep and all that is possible, is the most
paradoxical thing that opens up everything such as our habitual absence from
the world. It seems to me that we can relate to the fact that every so often
someone remembers that we can leave the world completely. We can disappear
without leaving a trace.”
The first showing of Seven Stories to leave the World is set
for 22nd September 2006 (repeat performances on 23rd and
24th September) at the Bellini Catania Theatre. Commissioned by the
Sicilian Region and Massimo Bellini Theatre, the opera will be interpreted by Gabriella Costa (soprano), Carmelo Corrado Caruso (baritone), with
the participation of Donatella Finochiaro
(vocals). The Bellini Theatre Orchestra from Catania will be directed by Antonino Manuli, with the direction of Roberto Ando. Another recent production
by Betta and Ando The Secret Voyage,
draws on Josephine Hart’s Reconstruction, Marco Betta’s music and
interpretation by Claudia Gerini, Alessio Boni and Emir Kusturica. The orchestrated music is directed by the composer
and is being recorded by the Rome Symphonic Orchestra.
